We are doing Story of the World Vol 1: Ancient Times for our history curriculum. I bought this for our history when I thought I would only be homeschooling my first grader, but it is a program that is adaptable for all students K-8 and so we are going to go ahead with it. We bought the activity book and I’ve also purchased the tests to give to my older children.
It is a slightly dated curriculum. I used the Well-Trained Mind (older edition from the library) to try to supplement, but I think we will be relying much more on the following websites.
- AirSkull.com has a Story of the World Vol. 1 Book List organized helpfully by chapter
- Airskull.com also has a You Wouldn’t Want to Be… Book List also organized by chapter
- LearningMama.com has a List of Resources for studying the Story of the World organized by volume. (That’s where I found airskull.com, but there are lots of other resources that you might find helpful)
I never liked history in school, but I ended up loving it once I got to college. I want my kids to have a love of history and I hope that I can try to make this year fun. The nice thing about doing something like Ancient History for them is that it isn’t what they would have been doing if they were in school. I think that gives us freedom to really stop and investigate whatever is of interest to us.
