My go-to writing time has usually been during our rest-time. I may have older children, but I still have a thirty minute period where they go upstairs and ready or play quietly while I have a little bit of peace and quiet.
Truthfully, if I only had older children I don’t think that a rest-time would be required. But I have an almost six year old, and I assure you, it most certainly is.
So the kids go up for “Sustained Silent Reading” and I go write. Except during our first two weeks of homeschooling I go and stare at the wall. Maybe get out a book. But, I haven’t picked up a pen and written.
Something needs to change.
Obviously it is the time that I am devoting to writing.
After a full morning of hands-on-teaching my youngest, answering questions from the older kids, logging people into things, managing fights, and just being around four other people I am ready for a break.
Which means, I need to figure out how to add writing to my morning time. But in a way that does not require me to wake up earlier, because that is just not going to happen.
Or maybe, I need to add it in after rest-time. I will need to find someplace quiet to go, but it could be done.
But, something needs to change.
